Our Story

In the spring of 1993, Tom Liljenquist set out with Sid Beckstead to establish one of the first luxury Swiss watch boutiques to serve the growing Northern Virginia region. Their quest led them to Tysons Corner Center, which has 22 million visitors each year and is home to 300 specialty shops and restaurants.

The founding partners decided to name the store Lenkersdorfer in honor of Tom’s mother, Sophia Jean Lenkersdorfer. Jean, the loving mother of five boys, taught English Literature at Washington & Lee High School in Arlington, VA. While battling terminal illness for five years, Jean continued to teach until the final two weeks of her life. Jean is buried with her husband of 25 years, L. Blaine Liljenquist, in Arlington National Cemetery. Sophia Jean Lenkersdorfer’s loving spirit continues to live on through all the lives she has touched.
